10 Spiritual Truths of the Internet

Internet_Minute_InfographicIf you are reading this, it’s almost certain you’re doing so on the internet.  And when you share this post, another internet interaction.

For the amount of time we use this amazing technology, we rarely think about it spiritual implications, yet it is the very essence of spirituality.

1)  IT’S EVERYWHERE & ITS NOWHERE

The internet is not a single location, but a connection of private and public computers around the world. It’s for this reason that it can be so easily accessed for various uses.

In quantum physics, it is called non-local reality when an action in one location has an effect in another location: a person presses a key in North America, and a document arrives half way around the world in seconds.

2) IT MAKES YOUR THOUGHTS HAPPEN INSTANTLY

Most information can be obtained in a very short time.  Similarly, things can be learned, created or otherwise made to happen, online. Almost anything you can imagine can be done through internet technologies.

Because it is non-local, people from all over the world are able to meet, chat, and share with little regard for distance or time zones.

4)  THE WORLD’S KNOWLEDGE IS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
Most of the world’s libraries, magazines, books, films and other media have been put online, somewhere, and can be accessed relatively easily and cheaply.

5)  THERE IS NO COERSION TO USE ITeoi

There is a saying “there is no coercion in spirituality.” What you do must come from your own free choice – or at least as freely as we are able to choose. We decide where to go, what to search for, where and how to interact – and usually have the option to leave when we become uncomfortable.

6)  IT CAN FULFILL DESIRES (FOR BEST AND WORST OF HUMANITY)

Most desires can be fulfilled online. This goes for humanity’s most noble qualities (knowledge, sharing, healing, helping each other) and our most basic desires (midnight pizza & beer delivery, porn, violence).

7)  IT IS THE GLOBAL & COLLECTIVE (UN) CONSCIOUNESS

The internet we know, love and hate, is the sum of all the people past and present. This includes the technology to build it, as well as the content. All past knowledge accumulated to take us to this point where the internet is possible, allowing each of us to contribute as much, or as little, as we wish.

8) IT’S EASY TO BE WHO YOU WANT TO BE

eyes-34473_150Each time  you go online to a chat group, create a web or social media identify, you can be yourself or someone else (for better or worse).  Because it is anonymous in some respects, a new name and way of communicating can help us break our own barriers and live out our fantasies as the person we wish to be. Potentially, allowing us to try new personalities or traits we wish to carry over into physical life.

 9) THE INTERNET IS A MIRROR OF OURSELVES

What we see or do online, is a reflection of ourselves and our desires. With so many options for entertainment, communication and knowledge, what we do says a lot about our motivation and desires.

10)  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS AND CONSEQUENCES

With so much information, it is up to each of us to determine what is true and relevant, and how to use the information. Because it crosses so many international boundaries, there are no clear and consistent laws. We become responsible for ourselves, our actions and the consequences of those actions. There are few “authorities” we can run to when things don’t go our way.

How many other reasons can we find?
What’s your reason the internet is spiritual?
